Our Process for BEES Connection to Grid

1

Site Identification & Early Feasibility

  • Identify suitable land near existing transmission or distribution infrastructure.
  • Review nearby substations, voltage levels, and available network capacity.
  • Conduct preliminary grid capacity and congestion assessment.
  • Engage early with the Network Service Provider (NSP) and the Australian Energy Market Operator.
2

Connection Enquiry

  • Submit a connection enquiry to the relevant NSP.
  • Receive preliminary information on:
    • Network capability
    • Potential connection points
    • Required studies
    • Indicative connection costs.
3

Connection Application

Submit a formal connection application including:
  • plant design and capacity
  • Inverter specifications
  • preliminary control models
  • Proposed connection point.
4

System Impact Studies

Detailed power system analysis performed by the NSP/AEMO, including:
  • Load flow studies
  • Fault level analysis
  • Stability studies (RMS and EMT)
  • Power quality and harmonic studies.
5

Performance Standards Negotiation

  • Negotiate Generator Performance Standards (GPS) with the NSP and AEMO under the National Electricity Rules.
  • Define requirements for:
    • Voltage control and reactive power capability
    • Frequency response
    • Fault ride-through
    • System strength performance.
6

Detailed Design & Construction

  • Develop detailed electrical design of:
    • BESS plant
    • Transformers and substations
    • Transmission connection assets.
    • Construct plant and grid connection infrastructure.
7

Commissioning & Testing

  • Perform staged commissioning tests, including:
    • Protection system testing
    • Inverter control verification
    • GPS compliance tests
    • Performance validation.
8

Registration & Market Participation

  • Register the BESS as a market participant with AEMO.
  • Enable participation in:
    • Energy markets
    • Ancillary services (e.g., frequency control).
8

Commercial Operation

  • Achieve full operational status after successful testing and approvals.
  • Begin charging/discharging and providing grid services.
